"-AAATE!" Slate turned, fearing his mind was causing him to hear things as he could have sworn he heard someone calling his name. But when he looked behind him, he saw nothing but snow and some lingering cats in camp. Shrugging, the grey male kept walking in a daze as he went through the camp, destination, the den. It was only when he heard the quick crunching of paws quickly approaching him in the snow did he finally turn and hear Vanille's cry.

The silver and newly appointed mentor had barely enough time to compose his shock as the apprentice tackled him into the snow with an excited chirrup. Snow flew up around the crash zone, and Slate only grinned sheepishly at the little hybrid on his back. Vanille grinned down to him proudly, his little chest rising and falling as his poor lungs tried to keep up with the rapid heartbeat that thudded in his chest. But Vanille was far to excited! His uncle was his mentor after all!

Snorting with a bit of a laugh, the pale caracal hybrid's tail began to wag happily. "Hey Uncle Slate!"

And in the back of their minds, Slate and Vanille both knew.

It was going to be a long, long winter.
